Wednesday 11th June found around 20 CBYA members and friends at the Bassettes Harbour enjoying some proper "Spanish" weather, which made a very pleasant change from recent days, some sailing, and the "hospitality of the Coral Bar on the waterside.
We had access to three Hobbie Cats, and fourteen of the party ventured out and enjoyed moderate winds and sunshine. The atmosphere around Bassettes was "busy" with many children from local schools learning the joys and skills of sailing, canoeing, and wind surfing, and so our time was limited to their lunch break, which only allowed us access to the Hobbies for about 2 hours. However it was enough to stimulate the taste buds for further days there in July (23rd) and September (10th)

The last of the spring series of the 5CN races took place on Saturday 17th May from Calpe. From a CBYA point of view was the most successful yet as we had three boat competing out of a fleet of nine. "Lara Doss" "Chantana" and "Grannocks" represented the CBYA with a total of 12 members on board. Another two members crewed on Calpe member, John Godfreys, boat.
Winds were very light but the fleet avoided the thunder storms that were clearly visible ashore. All the fleet managed to make the mark off Moraira, but gradually the falling wind and the smell of the paella resulted in all but the two leading boats dropping out before reaching the southern mark, and heading back into the marina.
The crews all enjoyed a meal ashore provided by the Calpe club, and a presentation of prizes followed where assorted trophies for the five races were presented.
The autumn will see a repeat of the five race programme and we look forward to expanding the CBYA fleet.

Our first Monday club night took place in our new location, bar Mediterraneo, Teulada. It was very well supported with about 40 members enjoying a chat and drink in the bar, several people also ate in the restaurant earlier. The large turn out indicated that it was the right decision to move from our previous meeting place, where often less than a dozen members would put in an appearance.
Unfortunately, despite previous assurances from the bar manager that we would have our own room, we found ourselves sharing the public space with other clients. Perhaps the owner was unaware of the potential number of our regular members, but we have been assured that next week we definitely have the room behind the bar to ourselves.
If we are unable to obtain the use of a private function room for our Monday meetings, please be assured that the committee will actively seek an alternative venue. Watch this space.
The first of our new "special" Monday night themed evenings was held on June 2nd, at Calpe Club Nautico.
More than thirty members arrived in time for a drink before adjourning upstairs to the members lounge and viewing a superb 45 minute documentary on the recent 32nd Americas Cup. We learned something of the history and build up before the event, and watched behind the scenes, and on board excitement, which had us gasping at the burst spinnakers, broken mast, and very close encounters between these graceful racing boats and their fantastic crews. Because Switzerland won for the second time in succession it means that Spain will again host the 33rd Americas Cup in Valencia which is of course good news for the CBYA too.
Following the DVD there was a lively discussion on club matters and input of ideas for the future. Dinner in the club dinning room followed, to complete an enjoyable and successful evening.
Thanks to Rachel and the Committee for arranging the evening.
